With funds raised through the sale of a collection of watercolours, Canadian landscape artist Toni Onley bought a Wilga ’80 aircraft. He loved to fly, sketching while piloting his plane through storms. With his plane, he accessed remote stretches of stunning landscape, and these images filled his canvases. But not all of his flying adventures were happy. In 1983, he and photographer John Reeves crashed on a glacial crevasse. They were rescued and survived. On February 29, 2004, he crashed again, this time into the Fraser River. Tragically, he did not survive.
